(June 2014) University of Kentucky

UK announces that Dr. Lisa Cassis, Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular and Biomedical Pharmacology, has agreed to serve as the University of Kentucky's Interim Vice President for Research.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Dr. Lisa Cassis, Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular and Biomedical Pharmacology, has agreed to serve as the University of Kentucky's Interim Vice President for Research. Dr. Cassis received broad support from her colleagues during my conversations with the deans and other stakeholders.

Dr. Cassis is an exceptional scholar. She has an extensive research portfolio, focusing primarily on metabolic, vascular and obesity-associated diseases. She currently serves as the Principal Investigator on several, multi-million dollar federal grants and is an affiliated faculty in the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center.

She earned a B.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from West Virginia University and held post-doc positions at the University of Wurzburg and the University of Virginia. She has received several professional and academic honors; is a noted leader in her field; and an exceptional colleague and mentor at UK.

She will begin her term on June 2, 2014. I will communicate details regarding the search process for a permanent Vice President for Research in the future.
