The SRP program staff would also like to thank the staff and students of UNC and Duke for doing a wonderful job hosting the meeting! A special thanks to Eve Marion (Duke) and Linda Brezin (UNC) for their tireless hours in tending to all challenge - large and small.
Nicki Baker: 2012 Wetterhahn Award Winner
UK SRP trainee Nicki Baker received the prestigious Karen Wetterhahn Memorial Award, which was presented at the Annual Meeting in October. Nicki is researching environmental toxins and their impact on obesity and type 2 diabetes. Her work provides insight into the relationship of PCBs on human health including the possibility that exposure to PCB’s may blunt the positive effects of losing weight. Nicki presented her SRP research in a session on Tuesday at the Annual Meeting. The very next day, Environmental Health Perspectives accepted and published her paper on coplanar PCBs and weight loss in obese mice. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments, Nicki!
