Research Translation and Training Cores Launch Communication Training Program for SRP Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars

(August 2010) - During the summer of 2010, the University of Kentucky Superfund Research Program Research Translation and Interdisciplinary Training Cores offered communication training workshops for UK-SRP graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.

The workshops focused on developing scientific presentation skills, understanding the challenges of audience-appropriate health and risk communication, and incorporating audience segmentation and targeting strategies into scientific presentations. Participants received both a textbook on oral scientific presentation and a training-specific handbook that contained modules on research translation, audience segmentation/targeting, developing presentation content for specific audiences, and tailoring delivery for specific audiences. Students who completed the training were invited to present about their research programs for Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection personnel during the August edition of the UK-SRP/DEP Research Translation Seminar Series.
