Christian Siriano

With the dozens of events that the Student Activities Board brings to UK's campus each semester, students have a lot to choose from. This spring, the event that caught almost everyone's attention was the speaker, Christian Siriano. Hundreds of students lined up and packed Memorial Hall to come see this "fierce" designer. Few events were held this semester on-campus which produced the buzz and excitement of Christian Siriano.

Christian became popular from his accomplishments on the reality show, Project Runway.  He was the fourth season's winner and the youngest winner the show has ever seen. After his time on the show, he jumped straight in to the fashion industry and began designing for Hollywood's most elite.. His popularity has exploded and at only 23, he is becoming one of the most accomplished designers in today's fashion world.

Students came to hear Christian discuss his experience on Project Runway, his recent accomplishments and his life before fame. The whole audience was captivated by the story of a rising star, who was not much older than most of them. Zach Zmylso, said,"It's really inspiring to see someone that is only a few years older than you and hear about how they have accomplished so much already."
After Christian finished his lecture, he allowed students to pose questions to him which ranged from how to get started in the fashion world to whether he was dating anyone. Christian took all questions with a great nature and gave answers in a way that only he could give, always using his now-famous taglines and feeling free to let the audience know who he felt was just a "hot mess."
Cultural Arts Director Nigel Lepianka feels this show was by far the most successful event that he has been a part of with SAB. "It was a really great experience to put a lot of hard work into programming an event and then see it have such great success," Lepianka said.

This event will surely go in the books as one of SAB's most memorable from this year. To be sure you won't miss out on the next great act, be sure to check out www.uksab.org to see future SAB events
