Mark O'Connor - October 6, 2006
Widely recognized as one of the most gifted contemporary composers in America, O'Connor is surely one of the brightest talents of his generation. From his first recorded composition for Sony, Appalachian Waltz, a collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer, to his Grammy-winning follow up release, Appalachian Journey, Mark has been hailed a "genius" by the Baltimore Sun, "brilliantly original" by the Seattle Times, and "one of the most talented and imaginative artists working in music—any music—today" by the Los Angeles Times.

Royal Drummers of Burundi - October 19, 2006
The second concert in the series will be the legendary Royal Drummers of Burundi, arguably Africa's most famous percussion ensemble, and certainly one of the most sought after world music groups performing today. These artists continue to perform as they have for centuries, passing down traditions and techniques from father to son. Their unique sound has resulted in a number of successful collaborative recordings with popular artists such as Joni Mitchell, Bow Wow Wow, and Adam and the Ants, among others. Also performing in this concert will be Mombasa Party, a string and vocal ensemble from Kenya. The live performances of The Royal Drummers of Burundi are the ultimate African drum experience.

The Bulgarian State Opera - January 18, 2007
In January, the Bulgarian State Opera visits the Singletary Center Concert Hall with its production of Puccini's Turandot. This prestigious organization is quickly gaining international acclaim as one of the world's great opera companies. Having already performed on many of the world's most cherished stages, their first visit to Kentucky promises to be a highlight of the season. With a large choir and orchestra, stellar soloists and esteemed conductor, the story of the legendary Peking princess, Turandot, comes to life in a most passionate and theatrical fashion.

Savion Glover in "Classical Savion" - January 30/31, 2007
Unanimously considered the world's finest tap dancer, Savion Glover was one of the youngest men ever to be nominated for a Tony award. He starred on Broadway at the age of twelve in The Tap Dance Kid, subsequently performing with the late, great Gregory Hines in Jelly's Last Jam. In 1996, he won a Tony for his incredible work in Bring in Da Noize, Bring in Da Funk. Now, for the Singletary Center, Savion has set his sights on bringing classical music into a new light with Classical Savion. The tap impresario, with orchestra, will perform his uniquely innovative choreography to music by a host of master composers such as Medelssohhn, Vivaldi, Stravinski, and others, proving he is just as comfortable with classical music as he is with jazz, hip-hop, funk, and rhythm and blues.
