History of the SMRT

SMRT 1990:

April:
SMRI annual meeting in Washington, DC-Following a technologist educational seminar, there seemed to be an interest in starting an MR society/section for technologists.

August:

SMRM annual meeting in New York-There was a business meeting with 18 MR technologists (the SMRT steering committee) from across the nation headed by Dr. Crues from Santa Barbara and Dr. Kressel from Philadelphia. Committees were started to include: Membership, Bylaws, Nominating, Education and Program.

November:

RSNA annual meeting in Chicago-The SMRT steering committee met and approved a set of bylaws for the SMRM technologists and subsequently nominated officers. November also saw the beginning discussions for the merger of the SMRM and SMRI, MR tech societies.

SMRT 1991:

April:
SMRI annual meeting in Chicago-The merger between SMRM and SMRI technologists begins. The need for a newsletter is recognized and a committee was put together to produce the first SIGNALS newsletter.

August:

SMRM annual meeting in San Francisco-Introduces the very First Annual SMRT Meeting. Bill Faulkner was elected President of the SMRT, August 1992-March 1992. Carolyn Kaut Watson was elected President-Elect, August 1992-March 1992. Lori Irelli was secretary, August 1991-March 1995. Swapen Sen was treasurer, August 1991-March 1995. Crues and Kressel receive the first Crues/Kressel award for outstanding achievements in MR technologist education. The first newsletter is printed.

December:
RSNA annual meeting-The SMRT becomes official! Articles of cooperation (former by-laws) approved by the SMRM and the SMRI. The second newsletter is published.

SMRT 1992:

April:
SMRM annual meeting in New York-This marks the 2nd annual SMRT meeting. The Steering Committee, acting as SMRT Policy Board, voted on SMRT logo and newsletter title: SIGNALS. Carolyn Kaut Watson elected as second SMRT President.
May:
Election of 15 Policy Board Members and President Elect. Decision that Policy Board would run for three years, but since the first fifteen came into office together, five would serve in office for 1 year, five for 2 years and five for 3 years. Subsequent Policy Board Members would all serve for 3 years.
The first Policy Board consisted of the following elected members: Carolyn Pickett, Rodney Bell, Luann Culbreth, Charles Deschamps, Lisa Desiderio, John Dillinger, Beverly Farrar, Robin Greene, Karolyn Handrahan, Christine Harris, Nanette Keck, Ed Kubiez, David MacManus, Paula Malagoli, Dorothy Olivera, and Judy Smagular.
This month in history also saw the election of Carolyn Pickett as President-Elect. The third newsletter was published, and the new SMRT logo was confirmed.
August:
SMRM annual meeting in Berlin, Germany where a technologist workshop in English and German is held!
September:
The first Northwest SMRT Regional is held in Seattle, Washington.
October:
The first Northeast SMRT Regional is held in Boston, Massachusetts. The fourth newsletter is published.
November:
The first South Central SMRT Regional in Dallas, Texas.

SMRT 1993:

January:
Newsletter becomes quarterly
February:
SMRI annual meeting in San Francisco which hosts an SMRT technologist workshop on "Contrast and MR angiography".
April:
First Southeast SMRT Regional in Atlanta, Georgia
May:
First Northcentral SMRT Regional, Chicago, Illinois
August:
SMRM annual meeting in New York- where the 3rd annual SMRT Meeting is conjointly held, and introduces the officer/board turnover for March 1994. The first President's Award is presented for the best paper.
November:
Elections for 1994 Board, President-Elect, Crues/ Kressel Award.

SMRT 1994:

March:
SMRI annual meeting in Dallas hosts the 4th annual SMRT meeting. The new president in is Carolyn Pickett. Elections for the President Elect, 5 new Policy Board members, the 3rd Crues Kressel award. The 2nd Presidents Award Paper is selected.
April:
