SUSTAINABILITY TASK FORCE SUB GROUP – BUSINESS OPERATIONS

Our committee held our orientation/topic selection meeting on Monday May 24, 2004 . Our initial goal was to discuss and agree upon the meeting by meeting progress of the subgroup. We decided that we would meet approximately seven times and would gather data, share these findings, study what other institutions are doing in this area, develop indicators, and finally report on progress. Warren Denny said he thought it might be helpful for our subgroup and the Land and Buildings Subgroup to hold a joint meeting to define and separate the overlap that exists between our groups. We then moved on to defining and developing each of the specific subtopics within Business Operations, and which member of the committee would gather the initial data in each of these areas. These topics and their respective champion are as follows:

Solid Waste – Tom Gregory

Hazardous/Radioactive/Medical Waste –Harry Enoch

Waste Water and Storm Runoff – Warren Denny

Pest Control – Tom Gregory

Air Quality/Emissions – Bob Wiseman

Recycling – Tom Gregory

Water Quality/Usage – Taylor Coots

Energy/Electrical Consumption – Bob Wiseman

Procurement Policies - Taylor Coots

Fleet Management – Robert Fehr

Campus Design and Growth – Warren Denny

Members agreed to email a short report on each of their topics to Taylor before the next meeting, which will be scheduled for the week beginning June 7 th. Meeting
