Dr. Ford received her B.A. in Psychology and Secondary Education from Transylvania University (1976), her M.S.W. with a Certificate in Gerontology from Syracuse University (1978), and her doctorate in Social Work (1986) from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She joined the faculty of the College of Social Work in 1991.

Dr. Ford has served as Director of Graduate Studies for the College of Social Work since 2005. She is also chair of the research curriculum committee for the College and was instrumental in the development of the research courses offered in the doctoral program and enhancement of the research sequence required in the MSW program. At the University level, she is an elected member of the Graduate Council and also serves as vice-chair of the University’s non-medical Institutional Review Board.

Dr. Ford’s recent research interests include school-based social work, truancy intervention, and gerontology education. She is a faculty committee member for the Sanders Brown Center Graduate Certificate in Gerontology and is serving as P.I. for the College's participation in Project AGE: Agency Based Geriatric Education, Practicum Partnership Project, funded by the Hartford Foundation. She also participated in the CSWE Gero-Ed Center, National Center for Gerontological Social Work Education, Geriatric Social Work Initiative Funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation. She presented a paper at the national conference of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. She also served as co-P.I. for an evaluation of Kentucky's Family Resource and Youth Service Center Evaluations, funded by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Prior to joining the faculty at the College of Social Work in 1991, Dr. Ford worked as a hospital psychiatric social worker in Kentucky and as a researcher in Ohio's community mental health system. As Director of Research and Program Evaluation at the Hamilton County Community Mental Health Board in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Ford served as co-P.I. and project director on two research grants funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. She has presented research at national conferences, published in peer-reviewed journals, and has served as chair, member, and outside reviewer on several doctoral committees.
