Welcome From the Director

Dear Prospective student: royse-phd

Our assumption is that you are reading this because you have been thinking about teaching or are interested in research and can envision yourself either as a college level professor or a researcher connected to a university or agency. If you are interested in either of these paths, we are glad to learn of your interest in doctoral work at our College. We believe we have a strong and rigorous program that will challenge you in a good way -to help you develop critical thinking skills, to learn to think and write like a scholar. We will give you actual experience teaching students. In short, we'll do our part to well-prepare you

We encourage you to visit the University, to meet some of our current students, to tour the library, perhaps to observe a doctoral student class or a doctoral student teaching a class. I'll be glad to talk with you by phone (859-257-6659) or will correspond with you by email (droyse@uky.edu).

UK is a growing and thriving university with strong medical and law schools and is situated within a medium-sized city with fine restaurants and many cultural activities. Lexington is a friendly community and a good place to live -whether you are an individual, in a relationship, or raising a family.

Come look us over, talk to me or other faculty about your interests and what you would like to get from a Ph.D. program. Let's see if it is a good fit. (Note: by going to the listing of faculty and clicking on each picture, you can learn more about their research interests, publications, and specializations). Hope to talk with you soon!
