The College of Social Work's Continuing Education Program is designed to provide lifelong learning opportunities for practicing social workers and related human service professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills and to meet States' licensing and regulation requirements for professional practice.

The Continuing Education Program is guided by regulations and protocols promulgated by the Kentucky Board of Social Work, the American Association of State Social Work Boards and the Continuing Education Unit Guidelines set forth by the Commission on Colleges and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Courses are designed to provide social workers and related professionals cutting-edge programs in areas such as mental health services and interventions, substance abuse, domestic violence, child maltreatment, management, HIV/AIDS, clinical supervision and ethics.New courses are designed based upon relevant research findings and emerging concerns from the practice and educational communities. Courses are geared for professionals at the basic, intermediate, advanced and clinical levels. All course instructors are master practitioners, educators, researchers or management specialists. All continuing education (CE) offerings are approved for continuing education credit by the Kentucky Board of Social Work.Courses are offered on the campus of the University of Kentucky or in sites convenient to practitioners.

The licensing regulation (KRS:335.130(4) guides the practice of social work in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and requires social workers practicing at the Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) or Certified Social Worker (CSW) levels to acquire thirty (30) hours of continuing education credits for each certified period and Licensed Social Workers (LSW) to acquire fifteen (15) hours. Courses in ethics, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS and clinical supervision (for LCSW's who will be providing supervision) must be included periodically for continued licensure in Kentucky.
