The Ultimate Home Visit
The Ultimate Home Visit was developed
with the concept that one cannot learn more about a client
than when s/he visits them in their home. The UHV
program gives participants the ultimate opportunity
to visit not just the homes of Latinos, but their very country of origin.
It is designed for professionals in the human services, including educators, who encounter Latino immigrants in their daily work and want to understand their clients’ background, frame of reference, their life experiences; to learn how
to be more effective as they seek to provide
culturally competent services.
This program, offered under the auspices of the University of Kentucky, offers a two-week stay in Morelia, the beautiful colonial capital of Michoacan.
Participants live
with a Mexican host family,
and take specially designed presentations at the Universidad Latina de America to learn about the education, health, legal and social service systems in Mexico, as well as Mexican life and culture.
Excursions to urban and rural social service sites, hospitals, clinics, schools and cultural sites gives the participants the opportunity to learn firsthand about life in Mexican towns and villages that are home to many of the immigrants coming to work in Kentucky and the U.S. Spanish language classes focus on concepts and vocabulary needed to better understand and participate in the presentations and excursions. Through the association with the 2 universities, participants have the opportunity to experience intense, in-depth learning.

- 24 hours of approved Professional Development for Fayette County, KY educators
- 24 hours CEUs for licensed social workers (Kentucky and Ohio)
