Program History and Administration

The Ultimate Home Visit was developed by Cathy Sutphen of the Russell Cave Elementary Family Resource Center in Fayette County and Dr. Richard Sutphen of the University of Kentucky College of Social Work. The Sutphens have lived in and worked with Mexico for many years and coordinate the program both in the U.S. and on-site in Mexico with the faculty of the Universidad Latina de America. Previous trips took place in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 with the Universidad de Michoacan. Participants have included schoolteachers, school administrators, FRYSC coordinators, social workers, school and community nurses, attorneys, migrant recruiters/educators, community organizers and others.

LexLinc, Inc., serves as the fiscal agent and has supported the project since its pilot program in June 2003, with the goal of enhancing community services. The University of Kentucky provides support and continuing education credit for social workers. The program is recognized and supported by Fayette County Schools and The State Office of Family Resource and Youth Service Centers of Kentucky.
