Brief Description: Indiana statute requires that Indiana have three Citizen’s Review Panels including a child fatality review team, a child protection team, and a foster care advisory team. Each team has at least one Chairperson.
Indiana changed their reporting period to a calendar year to better accommodate the needs of its panels.
Two new CRP’s have been appointed for three year terms beginning January 1, 2014; Switzerland County Child Protection Team CRP and Heritage Foster and Adoption Support, Inc. Their first reports were submitted on December 31, 2014.
The Heritage Foster and Adoption Support CRP is reviewing the relationship between initial assessments and services provided to children and families.
The Switzerland County Child Protection Team reviewed numerous cases and submitted an annual report regarding children born addicted to or affected by substance abuse. The Marion County Child Fatality Review Team CRP completed their final report on June 30, 2014. The Marion County Child Fatality Review Team reviewed fatalities in 5 specific zip codes in Indiana with a large number of fatalities and made recommendations to DCS. An new panel was expected to take over effective January 1, 2015, but decided they would not be able to take on this task. Recruitment efforts are under way to secure a new team.
