Brief Description: Tennessee has four (4) regional Citizen Review Panels. The four (4) panels are located in Memphis (West TN), Montgomery County (Clarksville- Mid-Cumberland Region), Chattanooga (Hamilton County) and the Northwest Region of Tennessee which includes nine rural counties.
Each Panel has a Chairperson who is responsible for facilitating meetings and ensuring that panel members follow through with their goals. Each spring, a statewide retreat is held to review previous year information, to discuss “lessons learned” and to develop recommendations for the state child welfare Commissioner. During the May 2012 retreat, a representative from the state child welfare agency shared information on a new initiative (In-Home Tennessee) that is designed to enhance families’ capacities to keep their children safe by connecting them to formal and informal resources. The initiative further focuses on using service provisions to reduce repeat maltreatment.
