Biography Research Interests: Aging, community engagement, employer engagement, health disparities, interdisciplinary research, mental health, minority health issues, occupational health, occupational health disparities, prevention, research outcomes, job schedules, social policy, translational research, women’s health issues, work organization, workplace flexibility, work-life Dr. Jennifer E. Swanberg is an associate professor in the University Of Kentucky College Of Social Work with joint appointments in the Colleges of Public Health, Medicine and Business. She also serves as the Executive Director of the Institute for Workplace Innovation (iwin) at the University of Kentucky. She is an interdisciplinary social scientist with research interests in understanding how the organization of work impacts individual health and work-life effectiveness, as well as organizational outcomes, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable populations. Her research has been funded by many national entities, including the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Department of Health and Human Services, the Ford Foundation, and the Sloan Foundation through a grant from the Sloan Center on Aging & Work at Boston College. Dr. Swanberg is widely published in scholarly journals, has been featured as a work-life expert in Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Newsweek, and on CNN, MSNBC, and NPR news programs. She has been recognized by the Alliance of Work-Life Progress as one of the profession’s Rising Stars, her research has been honored by the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Work-Family Research—designating it as one of the top ten research articles in the nation, and she is the work-life columnist for Business Lexington, Lexington, Kentucky’s premier Business publication. In April 2010, she was among a handful of researchers invited by President and first Lady Obama to the White House Forum on Workplace Flexibility. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Policy and a Masters in Human Services Management from Heller School of Social Policy and Management, Brandies University and a B.S. in occupational therapy from the University of New Hampshire.
