- Ginny Sprang PI and her co-PI’s Jim Clark, Carlton Craig, Michelle Tindall and Bob Walker, received a 1.6 million dollar SAMSHA grant. The Child and Adolescent Trauma Institute grant—this complements our new Center on the Study of Violence Against Children that was approved last week by the Board of Trustees. Full Story.
- The 5th annual Irma Sarett Rosenstein Lecture on Early Childhood Interventions "Multidisciplinary Assessments of Complex Child Welfare Cases" Presented by Dr. Kathleen Faller will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 in the W.T. Young Library Auditorium from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

been selected as a 2007 Hartford Doctoral Fellow. Details.

- Applications for the MSW program for Fall 2008 are due April 4, 2008. Application Information.
- News Update on the GRE for Graduate Admission: As of this date (4-14-06), the Graduate School has given the College permission to waive the GRE requirement for all MSW program applicants with GPA's of 3.0 or higher for the next two years. There is no need to schedule a Graduate Record Exam (GRE) unless a student is intending to compete for a university-wide fellowship or scholarship.
- Ph.D. Graduates Honored:
Two recent doctoral graduates, Dr. Valerie Bryan and Dr. Karen Badger, recently received notification that their dissertations have been selected for the 18th National Symposium on Doctoral Research in Social Work. A total of five dissertations from across the US were chosen. This is the second time in the last three years that UK College of Social Work Ph.D. graduates have distinguished themselves by being included in this select group.
- The Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF), organized under the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking grant reviewers. Details

- The University of Kentucky College of Social Work has been named
the recipient of the Joan Stoeckinger Award for Exemplary Service from the
National Conference
for Community and Justice. Here is a quote from the letter
received: "This
award is given to individuals and institutions who have distinguished themselves
in their direct actions with the NCCJ. The College has increased the capacity
and excellence of NCCJ by developing and implementing many programmatic and
public policy strategies over the years. The outstanding efforts of over
twenty undergraduate
and master's level students has provided extraordinary results for NCCJ. This
service has set the standards for subsequent honorees to meet. It is institutions
like the UK College of Social Work who furthers our mission of fighting bias,
bigotry and racism while promoting respect and understanding among all races,
cultures and religions."
