Doctoral Program

The University of Kentucky – University of Louisville joint Ph.D. program in Social Work is the first joint doctoral program of its kind. The program’s excellence is built upon the combined resources and long history of social work education of the two largest universities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Program faculty have distinguished themselves as scholars, teachers, and experts in the various fields of social work practice. Students in the joint UK – U of L program can look forward to a rigorous and intellectually challenging learning experience in a supportive environment.

The purpose of the joint program is to prepare professionals who already hold a Master's degree in Social Work to become: (1) high quality teachers and researchers for accredited social work education programs, and (2) top-level administrators, planners, policy analysts, and program evaluators for positions in a broad range of human service organizations. The joint Ph.D. program is offered at both the University of Kentucky at Lexington and the University of Louisville in Louisville. Students in the program can choose to matriculate at either campus.
