Picture of JustinThe Medically Fragile Training Program was established in the 1980’s and has grown as the medically fragile population has grown.  The guidelines for training content are well established in the Standards of Practice as well as in Kentucky law.

Since 2003, the University of Kentucky Training Resource Center has developed, coordinated and conducted the training for resource families and social workers.

The initial training curriculum, “Join Hands Together” was developed by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and it is required that everyone, caring for the medically fragile population, take this course.

Seven advanced training sessions have been developed by University of Kentucky Training Resource Center staff to meet ongoing training needs of medically fragile certified homes.  Trainers are also American Heart Association CPR and First Aid instructors and this certification is included in the training.  In 2005, AED certification was also included for resource home families.

Training sessions are usually held on weekends to accommodate the resource family.  Sessions provide twenty four hours of ongoing training.
