Lifeguarding
Red Cross Lifeguarding classes are taught at the Lancaster Aquatic Center year round. In order to participate in the lifeguarding classes participants must meet the following criteria.
- Must be at least 15 years of age by the end of the class.
- Must successfully perform skills test first day of class:
- Swim 300yds continuously, using these strokes in the following order:
- 100yds of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick. Rhythmic breathing can be performed either by breathing to the side or to the front.
- 100yds breast stroke using a pull‚ breath‚ kick and glide sequence.
- 100yds of either front crawl or breast stroke. The 100yds may be a combination of front crawl or breast stroke . (NO TIME REQUIREMENT)
- Start in the water‚ swim 20yds using front crawl or breast stroke‚ surface dive 7-10 feet‚ retrieve a 10 pound object‚ return to the surface‚ swim 20 yds back to the start point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps‚ within the time frame of 1 minute and 40 seconds.
- Swim 300yds continuously, using these strokes in the following order:
