Group Fitness Classes
The Bernard Johnson Student Recreation Center offers a variety of classes throughout the year including hi/low aerobics‚ step aerobics‚ muscle conditioning‚ yoga‚ spinning‚ pilates‚ and more! Each class is designed and taught by trained instructors to help individuals of varying fitness levels and capabilities work towards their optimal level of fitness. Class Descriptions
20/20/15
This total body conditioning class involves 20 minutes of basic step – perfect for beginners and experienced steppers – followed by 20 minutes of floor cardio‚ including kickboxing and hi–lo. This class concludes with 15 minutes of body sculpting. If you are looking for a challenge and great results‚ this complete workout is for you!
Ball Tone (NEW!)
Have a ball! This new energy-packed class will combine cardio and sculpting using one piece of equipment -the Resist-a-ball! Be sure to check out this new class to find out all that you can do with your own resistance and a single ball.
Body Blast
This class will offer challenges to push your body to a new level! You will use dumbbells‚ a body bar‚ resistance tubing‚ a stability ball‚ and more to target all of the major muscle groups of the body!
Body Sculpt
Sculpt and tone your body from head to toe! This class will mix strength and flexibility to help you reach your fitness goals.
Cardio Circuit
This class will get it all! You'll be sure to have fun while you work your way through sculpting combinations, ab workouts, balance work, cardio drills and more. This fun and creative class will keep you moving and sweating your way to a fitter you!
Core Blast
This power–packed class trains and strengthens the core; including the abdominal and back muscles.
Dance Fusion (NEW!)
Like to exercise but you’d rather be dancing? Here’s a class that will combine dance with a variety of fitness disciplines to keep you on your feet in a unique fusion of mind and body. Look forward to each week carrying a theme from different musical genre’s or dance styles.
*Endurance Ride
The same intense group cycling workout only for 90 minutes! BE SURE to bring a towel and a water bottle!
Group Cycling
This intense workout incorporates basic cycling moves‚ cardio‚ and strength based on time‚ speed‚ and recovery. If you're new to cycling, come a few minutes early and we'll get your bike set up!
H.A.B.I.T.
Hips, Abs, Butt, Inner Thighs! A sculpting class to target them all!
Happy Hour (NEW!)
Each week a different instructor will bring an exciting new work out to the floor. Come prepared with tennis shoes and a water bottle and be ready for anything! The class format will range from Body Blast to HABIT, to Cardio Circuit to Kickboxing or even Pilates. Add our happy hour to your Wednesday night plans!
Hip-Hop
Like to exercise but you'd rather be dancing? Do both! This class combines mixed level aerobic based steps with hip dance moves providing you with the sweat you want and the fun you need!
Hip-Hop Hustle
A completely user-friendly designed hip-hop dance class that's easy to follow. Anyone can do the moves and make them their own. No competitions or performances are involved, just good fun fitness like a cardio dance party.
Kickboxing
Try a high impact‚ total body cardiovascular workout designed after Martial Arts and traditional boxing. This session incorporates both lower and upper body exercises ensuring to raise your heart rate. All fitness levels welcome.
Meditation (NEW!)
If you’ve ever left a Yoga class wishing you’d had a longer meditation – this class is for you! Start your weekend right by relaxing mind and body.
Mixed Level Yoga (NEW!)
No matter your level of expertise, this class is for you! This extended Yoga class will ensure that the basics are executed correctly and that even the most advanced levels will be challenged in this longer than average class.
Pilates
Challenge your mind and body while improving muscle control, coordination, core strength, and flexibility. Pilates builds strength from the inside out!
Step & Sculpt
Get a total body workout with this intense combination of a cardio workout and a variety of strengthening exercises. This class is sure to improve coordination‚ endurance‚ and strength.
Step Aerobics
This class is perfect for basic and intermediate steppers. Get an effective cardio workout while having fun and learning a variety of fun combinations!
Turbo Kick
The hottest kickboxing class around! This class combines athletic moves, sports drills, hip hop flavor, & so much more. Ready to take your kickboxingt class to the next level?
Yoga
"Yoga" means "to unite". Unite your mind, your body, and your spirit through this ancient discipline of methodical movement, deep breathing, meditation, and relaxation. **If you have your own yoga mat, be sure to bring it!**
Yoga Flex:
Taught in the style of Yin yoga, this class is designed to get major flexibility results while adding some time for reflection. This is a slow relaxing class, perfect for anyone wishing to be more flexible. All fitness levels welcome!
Yoga Fundamentals
Explore yoga in a completely different way with a class designed to be a supplementary class for other yoga work. If you are a beginner, this class is for you. We will be explaining the yoga basics. If you're more advanced, this class will touch base on how to get the most out of the positions and even perform new ones.
Yoga MuscleTM
Forget what you thought you knew about Yoga. YogaMuscleTM is a revolutionary vision of yoga for athletes: a strength-based yoga descipline designed for fitness settings. After an hour of YogaMuscleTM, you will truly "feel yoga".
Yogalates
Yogalates is designed to integrate the Pilates methodology into the practice of Hatha Yoga for a more complete system of exercise. The class will be led through a series of floor exercises incorporating both mat work exercises from Pilates and yoga poses to warm up the body and prepare the student for more challenging standing work later in the class.
Zumba
Zumba is a dance aerobic workout that uses footwork and body movements from Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and other Latin dances all to the beat of sizzling hot Latin rhythms.

- Aerobic classes may be changed according to demand.
- All classes are on a first come‚ first serve basis.
- Any class that has less than 3 participants for 3 consecutive weeks could be dropped from the schedule.
