Home Run Derby
Note to BCTC Students
Beginning with the fall semester of 2006‚ BCTC students are no longer automatically eligible for participation in UK Intramural activities and other Campus Recreation programs.
- To become eligible‚ BCTC students must pay the “Recreation Fee.”
- The “Recreation Fee” can be paid by eligible BCTC students at www.uky.edu/UK-eStore along with fees for other UK programs.
- For information about paying the “Recreation Fee‚” becoming eligible for Campus Recreation programs and joining the Campus Rec programs‚ please call the Campus Recreation main office at (859) 257–3928 or stop by Monday through Friday between 7am and 6pm to the main office located in the Johnson Center.
Spring Training Home Run Derby
- Home Run Derby is a whiffleball event to be held indoors.
- All matches shall be played in the Seaton Center Gym.
- The object is to hit as many home runs in the prescribed time limit as possible regardless of the number of pitches thrown.
- Only UK IM whiffleball bats and balls shall be used in competition.
Tournament Guidelines and Rules
- Teams shall consist of two players.
- A coin toss shall determine the choice for batting first or last.Ý The winner of the toss has the choice to hit or sit first.
- Each player shall bat for a term of 90 seconds.
- Teammates shall pitch to each other.Ý There are no designated pitchers.
- The team shall determine the pace of the pitching and hitting.Ý
- The only swings that count are those that result in home runs.
- There are no penalties for swings missed‚ foul balls or hits that are not home runs.
- Batters must swing from behind and remain behind the designated home plate line.
- Pitchers must pitch from behind and remain behind the designated pitching line.
- The team’s final score shall be the total number of home runs hit between the two players.Ý The team with the most home runs shall be the winner.
First Overtime
- In the event of a tie‚ each player shall hit for an additional 30 seconds.
- The team leading at the end of all four at-bats shall be the winner.
- A new coin toss shall again determine the choice for hitting or sitting.
Second Overtime
- In the event of a tie and a second overtime‚ each player shall receive five consecutive pitches from his/her teammate.
- The team leading at the end of all four at–bats shall be the winner.
- A new coin toss shall again determine the choice for hitting or sitting.
Sudden Death Overtime
- In the event of a tie after two overtimes‚ the teams shall play sudden death overtime.
- Each team shall designate a pitcher and a hitter.
- The designated pitcher shall pitch for all sudden death at–bats and the hitter shall hit for all sudden death at–bats.
- A new coin toss shall again determine the choice for hitting or sitting.Ý The winner of the toss shall hit first for the first sudden death at–bat.
- After this first toss‚ the teams shall alternate hitting first and last for sudden death at–bats.
- The first home run hit in sudden death shall be the game winner.Ý There shall not be a chance to answer by the opponent.
What is a Home Run?
- Any batted ball hitting the BACK WALLS OF SEATON GYM on the fly.
- Any batted balls hitting the MID–COURT TARP OF SEATON GYM on the fly.
- Any batted balls hitting the OUTSIDE WALLS OF SEATON GYM on the fly.
- The ceiling‚ rafters and basketball goals are in play and are to be considered nuances of the game and field that can work for a player and against a player at any time much like the wind at Wrigley Field in Chicago.Ý Batted balls may ricochet or bounce off these ceiling area obstacles for home runs.Ý Batted balls may also bounce off of these obstacles to eliminate potential home runs.
