Innertube H2O Polo
NOTE TO BCTC STUDENTS: Beginning with the fall semester of 2006, BCTC students were no longer automatically eligible for participation in UK Intramural activities and other Campus Recreation programs.
- To become eligible, BCTC students must pay the “Recreation Fee.”
- The “Recreation Fee” can be paid by eligible BCTC students at www.uky.edu/UK-eStore along with fees for other UK programs.
- For information about paying the “Recreation Fee,” becoming eligible for Campus Recreation programs and joining the Campus Rec programs, please call the Campus Recreation main office at 257-3928 or stop by Monday through Friday between 7am and 6pm to the main office located in the Johnson Center.
GENERAL
GENERAL
- Inner-tube H2O Polo will be played at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. Teams are encouraged to place only those with competent swimming ability on their rosters.
- Valid UK and BCTC student and UK faculty and staff IDs required for check-in and participation in all UK Intramural events.
- The 10-minute rule is in effect.
- Roster limit: 12 players
- A team consists of 6 players, 5 field players and a goalie if desired.
- Five players are required to start a game.
- A goalie is not required.
- All players must play from an inner-tube. All field players must SIT in the inner-tube. The goalie may kneel in the inner-tube at his/her discretion.
- Substitutions may be made during dead ball situations only and must be made from the team’s goal area.
THE GAME
THE GAME
- A coin toss will determine first half goal areas. Teams will switch goal areas for the second half and any overtime periods.
- The ball will be dropped into the center of the playing area to start play. All players must be in their team’s goal area to start and then move for the ball on the official’s whistle to start play.
- Alternate possession rule is in effect.
- Games are 24 minutes in length with (2) 12-minute halves. Half-time will be approximately 3 minutes.
- Overtime will be untimed and follow a sudden death format. The first team to score when overtime has stared wins.
- Each team is allowed one timeout per half and one timeout for the entirety of overtime.
- All timeouts are one minute in length.
- Timeouts do not accumulate or carry over.
- One point is awarded for each goal legally thrown into the opposition’s goal/net. Shots must clearly have broken the plane of the goal to have a point awarded.
- After a goal is scored the goalie inbounds the ball on the official’s whistle.
- Individual players may not hold the ball for more than a 5-second count.
- Players may not dunk and hold the ball under water.
- Players may not dunk, tip the inner-tube of or splash other players.
- Teams may not stall. The goal must be attacked throughout the game. A team will be told to play the goal. If the team does not play the goal, a minor penalty will be assessed and possession will be awarded to the opponent.
- The UK Intramural Department reserves the right to introduce pass limits per possession to the tournament.
CO-REC RULES ADDITIONS
- Teams shall consist of 3 female and 3 male players
- The goalie, if desired, may be either male or female but is not required
- Five players are required to start a game with the team make up being either 3 female and 2 male players or 2 female and 3 male players
PENALTIES
PENALTIES
- Minor Penalties include not stopping on the whistle, holding the side or the pool or the lane divider, intentionally holding the ball under water, intentionally stalling, holding the ball for more than 5-seconds, and falling out of the inner-tube. All Minor Penalties result in a loss of possession.
- Major Penalties include shooting fouls, over aggressive play, pushing, intentional splashing of water at an opponent, kicking, and any unsportsmanlike conduct. Major Penalties will result in a penalty shot and possible ejection if flagrant or continuously occurring. Warnings do not need to be issued prior to an ejection.
- Penalty shots will be taken from a predetermined spot.
- Once a penalty shot is taken the ball becomes live either off the block or miss or after the scored goal.
