Soccer

Eligibility
UK Intramurals are open to the University of Kentucky community as follows:

  • Students --- all students currently enrolled at UK and BCTC.
    • BCTC Students must have paid the Campus Recreation Fee via the e-store to be eligible for UK Intramural participation
  • Faculty and Staff --- all regular UK and BCTC Faculty and Staff members.  These F/S members must be eligible for the UK Faculty/Staff “Blue/White Card.”
  • Spouses of eligible students, faculty and staff --- may participate in Co-Rec events only and must be on the same roster with their UK/BCTC spouse.
  • Players may play on ONLY one unisex team and ONLY one Co-Rec team regardless of division or level of play.
  • The first team for which a player participates will be that player’s team for the duration of the tournament

Identification
Valid UK and BCTC IDs are required for check–in and participation at all UK Intramural events.

  • Students --- Students must present their valid UK or BCTC student photo ID.
  • Faculty and Staff --- must present their UK Faculty/Staff photo ID card 
  • UK Medical Center personnel may present their Med Center photo ID. 
  • Bernard M. Johnson Center faculty/staff IDs may be used for Intramural purposes as photo ID only.  They are not F/S or other valid university IDs.
  • Spouses --- of eligible participants must present a valid driver’s license for Co-Rec events.

General

  • All participants must sign Intramural Waiver Forms to participate.
  • No Jewelry is permitted. 
  • Athletic apparel must be worn for athletic events.  Shoes must be worn!  Metal cleats, screw-ins, boots, and sandals are prohibited for all events.
  • Softball will be played as a single elimination tournament, interest pending. 
  • Rosters are frozen after the team’s first played contest. 
  • Each team will designate a captain who will be responsible for all players and spectators in attendance.
  • Any player ejected from a contest must leave the field immediately and must meet with the Intramural Director before any suspensions begin and before playing again.

Apparel

  • Jewelry is not permitted. 
    • Jewelry found on an offensive player will constitute an out.
    • Jewelry found on a defensive player will constitute the move of all base-runners ahead one base and the option of the batter to take first base.
  • Athletic apparel must be worn for athletic events. 
  • Athletic shoes must be worn!  Metal cleats, screw-on cleats, boots, bare feet and/or sandals are not permitted for IM play. 
  • Cleats must be either molded rubber or rubber screw-ins provided there is not metal showing in the tips just as with flag football, soccer, softball, etc.

Protests

  • There will be no protest involving judgment calls.  Protests involving a rule interpretation MUST BE MADE AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT.  If the field officials are unable to provide a clear interpretation, the supervisor shall be called in. His/her decision shall be final.
  • Eligibility protest must be submitted in writing to room IM offices in the Johnson Center by 12:00pm on the following business day (Monday thru Friday) and must clearly state who is being protested and on what basis.

Weather Issues

  • The IM Director or the Graduate Assistant on duty shall have sole jurisdiction to call a game due to inclement weather.
  • It is the policy of the UK IM Department to give as much time as possible before calling games unless field conditions are obviously unplayable.  The usual designated call time is 2pm and teams may call the UK IM Office at 257-6584 for weather information.

3-PITCH KICKBALL
Any rules not specifically addressed are to be played within the spirit of baseball/softball play in regard to fair/foul balls, tagging up on caught fly balls, forced runners, etc

PRE-GAME

  • All players must sign the waiver to play and be counted toward the team roster
  • Teams must be prepared to play at the scheduled time including completed line-ups
  • The 10-Minute Rule is in effect 
    • Any team not prepared to play with the minimum of six players will be penalized 1 run beginning with the start of the game clock and each subsequent minute they are unprepared
    • After the 10 minutes has elapsed, the game will be forfeit.

THE GAME

  • Games will be 7 innings in length or 45 minutes, whichever comes first.  Once the 45-minute limit is reached, the current inning will be finished and the game will be over unless the score is tied.
  • A count of 3 outs by a team completes the team's half of the inning.
  • Each team will consist of 8 field players with a maximum roster of 16
    • Rosters are frozen after the first game played
    • Teams are encouraged to fill out complete 16 person rosters with the names of people who may play in later rounds
  • One of the 8 field players must be a catcher.  Teams must always have a catcher.
  • A team may choose to kick their entire roster and any 8 may play the field. 
    • To play the field, however, a player must be in the kicking order.
  • A team may not add more kickers to their order once a game has started.  Once a game has started, a new kicker may only enter the game by substituting for another player.
    • The lone exception to this rule is players coming late that fulfill the minimum line up requirements of 8 players.
  • A team must have 6 players to start a contest. 
    • One player must still be the catcher on defense.
    • In the kicking order, the sixth and seventh kicker spots will be automatic outs.
    • Should players arrive to games late, they will be added into the line-up at the end earliest half inning possible.
  • No bunting, lead-offs, stealing.
  • There is no infield fly rule.
  • Only UK Intramural kickballs will be used.

PITCHING/KICKING

  • Teams will pitch to their own teams.
  • Pitchers are responsible for pitching the kickball into the kicking zone.
  • Each kicker will have 3 pitches to get a hit/kick.
  • On the third pitch, a ball not pitched into the kicking zone, not kicked at all or not kicked in fair play is an out. 
  • The pitcher may not play defense and must make every possible attempt to avoid any kicked balls and/or defensive plays to be made. 
  • If in the opinion of the officials, no attempt was made by the offensive pitcher to avoid the kicked ball and/or the defensive play, INTERFERENCE will be called, the batter will be out and all runners will return to their original base.
  • All legal kicks must be made from within the designated kicking zone at home plate.
  • All legal kicks must be made with any part of the leg below the knee. 

DEFENSIVE PLAY

  • A team may choose to bat their entire roster and any 8 may play the field.  To play the field, however, a player must be in the batting order.
  • One of the 8 field players must be a catcher.  Teams must always have a catcher.
  • Outs are recorded as follows:
    • a third pitch missed or fouled by the kicker;
    • a third pitch thrown out of the kick zone;
    • any kicked ball (fair or foul) that is caught;
    • a ball tag on a base to which a runner is forced to run, before the runner arrives at the base;
    • a runner touched by the ball or who touches the ball at ANY time while not on base while the ball is in play;
      • Hitting a runner’s head with the ball is not allowed, unless the runner has put him or herself in is sliding.
      • Any runner hit in the head is safe, and advances to the base they were running toward when the ball hits the runner.
      • If the runner intentionally uses the neck to block the ball, and is so called by the Referee, the runner is out.
    • a ball tag of a runner on base, in which the runner does not tag their originating base when a ball is caught;
    • a runner off of his/her base when the ball is kicked;
    • a runner physically assisted by a base coach during play;
    • any kicker that does not kick in the proper kicking line up;
    • a runner that passes another runner

CO-REC RULE ADJUSTMENTS

  • A Co-Rec team also consists of 8 players, 4 female and 4 male
  • A team may choose to kick their entire roster and any 8 may play the field. 
    • To play the field, however, a player must be in the kicking order.
    • The kicking order must alternate sexes
    • There may not be more than 2 back-to-back players of the same sex in the kicking order
    • Should the team choose to kick more than the required 8 kickers in their team’s order, any spot where there are back-to-back players of the same sex shall have an automatic out placed between the same sex players
    • There are no restrictions on a Co-Rec team’s defensive field make-up other than it must consist of no more than 4 female or 4 male players
      • 8 players --- 4 female and 4 male
      • 7 players --- 4 female/3 male or 3 female/4 male
      • 3 players --- 3 female/3 male
