Note to BCTC Students
Beginning with the fall semester of 2006‚ BCTC students are no longer automatically eligible for participation in UK Intramural activities and other Campus Recreation programs.
- To become eligible‚ BCTC students must pay the “Recreation Fee.”
- The “Recreation Fee” can be paid by eligible BCTC students at www.uky.edu/UK-eStore along with fees for other UK programs.
- For information about paying the “Recreation Fee‚” becoming eligible for Campus Recreation programs and joining the Campus Rec programs‚ please call the Campus Recreation main office at (859) 257–3928 or stop by Monday through Friday between 7am and 6pm to the main office located in the Johnson Center.
General Guidelines and Rules – Individual Competition
- The UK IM Triathlon event is composed of three individual competitions in swimming‚ biking and running.
- One individual shall complete in all three legs.
- For UK Organization/Department considerations‚ a participant may not be replaced once his/her competition has begun.Ý In these cases‚ participants may only withdraw due to injury without penalty.
- The order of competition shall be the same for all individuals with the first leg swimming‚ the second leg biking and the final leg running.
- Each participant shall compete within the same group or heat of participants for the entire competition.
- Any competitor not available for the designated beginning of a leg of competition shall be disqualified and will not return to competition with another heat.
- There are not time–outs for bathroom breaks‚ etc.
- The event shall be run rain or shine.Ý An adjustment shall be made in the running distance for indoor competition.
Scoring
- Each leg of the competition shall be scored separately with the three scores added together at the for a competition total for each individual.
- The number of points available for each leg shall be determined by the number of men or women competing.
- If there are 25 individuals competing‚ the top competitor in each leg will receive 25 points towards the overall total.
- From this top competitor‚ the point total will decrease a single point for each place in the leg’s competition with second place receiving 24 points‚ third place 23 points and so on.
Pre–Competition Procedures
- Check–in shall begin at 11:15am on competition day.Ý Individuals are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their heat assignments swim time.
NOTE:Ý Heat assignments shall be posted in the Johnson Center on the IM Bulletin Boards by the Thursday prior to competition. - The first heat of competitors shall swim at noon.
- All competitors shall check–in at the designated area to show their university IDs‚ sign waivers and make sure of heat assignments.Ý The first heat of competition shall be directed to the pool area 10 minutes before competition is to begin.
- All swimming heats following the first swim shall be directed to the pool area and are encouraged to remain in that area to be directed to start their heat’s swim.
Swimming
- The swimming leg shall be held at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.
- The swim leg shall consist of a 5–minute timed swim.
- Scoring shall be based on total distance swam in the 5–minute period.
- Distance shall be measured by 0.25 of a length.Ý The competitor must pass the designated 0.25‚ 0.5‚ 0.75 or full length markers to be credited with the distance.
- While one heat is in the pool‚ the next heat shall be called on–deck until it is their time to swim.
- Swim heats shall begin when the previous heat has reached the 10–minute mark of their ride on the stationary bikes.
Transition from Swimming Leg to Biking Leg
- The biking leg shall begin 5 minutes after the finish of the swim leg.
Biking
- The biking leg shall be held on the outside patio area of the Lancaster Aquatic Center‚ weather permitting.
- All competitors shall ride stationary bikes equipped with distance monitor clocks.
- The biking leg shall consist of a 15–minute ride.
- Scoring shall be based on total distance ridden in the 15–minute period.
- In the case of inclement weather‚ the biking leg shall be held in the Seaton Center.
Transition from Swimming Leg to Biking Leg
- The running leg shall begin 5 minutes after the finish of the biking leg.
- All heat group members shall move to the running area together.
Running
- The running leg shall be held on the Pieratt Student Recreation Fields‚ weather permitting.
- The running leg shall consist of a 10–minute run of laps around Pieratt Fields.
- Scoring shall be based on total distance run in the 10–minute period.
- Laps shall be measured by 0.25 of a lap.Ý The competitor must pass the designated 0.25‚ 0.5‚ 0.75 or full lap markers to be credited with the distance.
- In the case of inclement weather‚ the run shall be made in Seaton Gym.
