Starting with game–time and for every minute after that they are without a minimum team‚ the Team A will receive 1 run per minute. During this time‚ the game clock will run. Should Team B eventually field a team‚ Team A will automatically win the coin toss to determine home and away and play will begin with the game clock running.

  • For all events in Seaton Gym‚ grabbing‚ hanging‚ etc. from the rims is prohibited. Violators will be ejected.

The Game

  • Games will be 7 innings in length or 30 minutes‚ whichever comes first. Once the 30–minute limit is reached‚ the current inning will be finished and the game will be over unless the score is tied.
  • Each team will consist of 7 field players with a maximum roster of 15.
  • One of the 7 field players must be a catcher. Teams must always have a catcher.
  • A team may choose to bat their entire roster and any 7 may play the field. To play the field‚ however‚ a player must be in the batting order.
  • A team may not add more batters to their order once a game has started. Once a game has started‚ a new batter may only enter the game by substituting for another player.
  • A team must have 5 players to start a contest. The sixth and seventh batters will be automatic outs.
  • Pitching
    • Teams will pitch to their own teams.
    • Each batter will have 3 pitches to get a hit.
    • On the third pitch‚ a ball not hit in play is an out.
    • The pitcher may not play defense and must make an attempt to avoid any batted balls.
    • If in the opinion of the officials‚ no attempt was made by the offensive pitcher to avoid the batted ball‚ interference will be called‚ the batter will be safe and all runners will advance one base.
  • The batter must swing with two hands on the bat.
  • Only UK Intramural bats and balls will be used.
  • The offensive team will run the bases. Run out all batted balls.
  • The defensive team must have a catcher. The other 4‚ 5 or 6 players may be positioned anywhere within the field of play between the foul lines and behind the pitcher.
  • Defense will play as in baseball/softball.
  • Defense may not throw the ball at runners for outs.
  • No bunting‚ lead–offs‚ stealing.

Ricochet Rule

  • The ceiling‚ rafters and basketball goals are in play.
  • Batted balls may be played off of them for out if caught before hitting the ground.
  • Batted balls hitting the ceiling will be fair if first landing in fair territory or foul if first landing in foul territory regardless of where the ball rolls once on the ground.
  • Any balls lodged in the ceiling‚ rafters or basketball goals shall be two base hits.
  • Batted balls striking the back or side–walls or the tarp separating North and South Gyms may not be played for outs. These batted balls are home runs.

Safety Rules

  • No defensive player may be in front of the offensive pitcher until the ball has been hit.
  • No sliding or diving for bases or balls‚ offensively or defensively.
    • Offensive players who slide or dive into a base are out and receive a yellow card.
    • Defensive players who slide or dive to make a play receive a yellow card. In these cases‚ all runners are guaranteed one base. After that first base‚ the runners may advance at their own risk.
  • Two yellow cards on an individual player is an ejection.

What is a Home Run?

  • Right and Left Field Fences
    • Fences shall be used to round the corners in right and left field.
    • Any batted ball clearing the fences is a home run even if the ball bounds back into the field of play off of one of the walls or the gym’s center tarp.
    • Any batted ball hitting the top of the fence and bouncing over shall be a home run. Subsequently‚ any batted ball hitting the top of the fence but bounding back into the field of play is not a home run and shall be played accordingly.
    • Any batted ball that hits the gym floor in play and bounces over the fences or goes under or between the fences shall be a 2–base hit. All runners shall advance two bases from their original starting point of the play.
  • Center Field and Back Walls
    • Fences will not be used in the center field area of either field
    • Any batted ball hitting any spot on the back wall on a fly shall be a home run
  • The ceiling‚ rafters and basketball goals are in play and are to be considered nuances of the fields that can work for a player and against a player at any time. Batted balls may ricochet or bounce off these ceiling area obstacles for home runs. Batted balls may also bounce off of these obstacles to eliminate potential home runs.
  • Batted balls may or ricochet off of the home run fences and hit the back wall of Seaton Gym for a home run.
