Why can’t I watch Channel 50 at my apartment?
Channel 50 is a closed–circuit cable channel and can only be viewed in on–campus locations such as: residence halls‚ the Student Center‚ the Johnson Center‚ classroom buildings‚ etc.
Who chooses the movies?
A representative from WRFL 88.1 FM‚ Student Government‚ Student Activities Board‚ Residence Life‚ and Channel 50 choose twenty movies each month.
Where does Channel 50 get the movies?
Channel 50 has a contract with Residence Life Cinema‚ a service from Swank Motion Pictures‚ Inc. With the contract Channel 50 can choose up to twenty different movies each month and not worry about copyright matters.
Who pays for Channel 50?
The cost of funding Channel 50 is split between WRFL‚ Student Government‚ Student Activities Board‚ and Residence Life.
Does Channel 50 only play movies?
As of right now‚ Channel 50’s main focus is movies. We are‚ however‚ hoping to expand our repertoire of programs to include student–produced shows. We would like to broadcast Campus Recreation events‚ Student Government meetings‚ and even a UK news program‚ among other ideas. We have made headway by broadcasting the SG Presidential Debate and look forward to offering more than just movies as the station develops.
Why does Channel 50 only play four movies each day?
Many other universities broadcast movies twenty–four hours a day‚ but Channel 50’s intended purpose is to be more than just a movie channel. The channel also serves as an advertising medium for university organizations‚ and will soon broadcast student–oriented programs. We may add more show times‚ but we do not want to overplay the twenty movies we have for each month.
How do I advertise with Channel 50?
Advertising is simple. Email a PowerPoint slide to Channel50@lsv.uky.edu with your University organization’s event/message/whatever‚ and we will put it in the slide rotation. Each advertisement airs for close to 17 seconds‚ and remains in the rotation for 15 days unless renewed. Click on the Bulletin Board link for more information.
