Fraternity &Sorority Recruitment
Not all groups have the same recruitment process. A brief outline is provided below. For more details, please contact the appropriate governing council using the links provided or contact the Fraternity & Sorority Affairs Office.
Interfraternity Council Chapters Informal open houses are held during the first week of school in both Fall and Spring Semesters. These events allow interested students and fraternity members to meet, interact and become better acquainted. Membership invitations are extended toward the latter part of the week. There is no charge to participate. All chapters are members of the National Interfraternity Conference.
Panhellenic Council Chapters A formal recruitment process is utilized. Formal recruitment week is held the week prior to the opening of classes in the Fall. Interested students meet with each chapter at least once. Through several rounds of mutual selection, students participating are matched with one chapter on the final day. The registration fee is $90 (before July 20 or $125 after July 21), which covers the processing costs and two meals. You can fill out a Recruitment Application and return it to our office address. Recruitment guidelines are outlined in the Membership Recruitment Guidelines and follow National Panhellenic Conference recommended procedures.
National Pan-Hellenic Council Chapters These chapters do not hold a collective membership recruitment period. Each group will announce its recruitment period dates and events throughout the semester. These chapters require a specific number of college credit hours (usually between 12 and 24) prior to extension of a membership invitation. All chapters are members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
Ceres and Phi Sigma Rho Ceres, a fraternity for women interested in agriculture, and Phi Sigma Rho, a fraternity for engineering, math, and science majors are member of the UK Panhellenic Council. They do not, however, participate in the formal recruitment process. Each holds its recruitment functions during the first week of classes in the Fall and throughout the remainder of the academic year.
