What is K2?
The fall semester at the University of Kentucky kicks off with K Week, so why should the spring semester be any different? K2 is designed to welcome hundreds of new students starting at UK in the spring as well as welcome back the entire University community for a new semester.
Is K2 just for new students?
All UK students are invited to attend many K2 events, including social events, information sessions, and open houses. The only event that is specifically geared toward new undergraduate students is the K2 Kick-off on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Room 230 Student Center, located above the UK Bookstore.
I still have questions about K2. Where can I get answers?
Send an e-mail to email@example.com or call (859) 257-6597 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Office of New Student and Parent Programs will be closed for the holidays from Wednesday, December 25, 2013 until Wednesday, January 2, 2014.
What is K2 Kick-off?
K2 Kick-off is a one-day program for new undergraduate students (both freshmen and transfer) who will be starting at UK in the spring semester.
Do I have to attend the K2 Kick-off?
While attendance at the K2 Kick-off is not considered mandatory, it is in the best interest of new students to take advantage of these activities. Attending the K2 Kick-off is the best way to meet people and become better acquainted with campus and University resources before the start of spring semester classes.
Do I have to participate in all the K2 Kick-off activities?
The campus tour and K Team dinner at the conclusion of the program are optional. The campus tour will focus on finding classroom buildings and other essential campus destinations. The K Team dinner is a chance to connect with a current UK student leader and other new students and get a FREE dinner!
What is the K Book, and where can I get a copy of it?
The K Book is UK's new student handbook. It is written for students by students and contains tips and stories on academic life, student life, campus resources, and UK traditions. No new student should be without one. Copies will be made available to new students at Advising Conferences. All students who attend the K2 Kick-off will receive a free copy of the K Book. Limited copies of the current K Book are available for sale at the UK Bookstore.
I already attended an Advising Conference. Why should I attend the K2 Kick-off? How is it different?
Orientation at the University of Kentucky is a two-step process. The first step is the Advising Conference, and the K2 Kick-off is the second step. The K2 Kick-off is not a repeat of the information that was presented at the Advising Conference. The K2 Kick-off activities give you opportunities to meet other new students as well as upperclass students, faculty, and staff. You will be able to learn more about University resources and services available to you. You also will learn more about how to get involved with UK's many student organizations and hear from a faculty member who will give you insights on classroom etiquette and faculty expectations. Finally, you will have the option of touring campus to find where your classes will be located and joining a K Team. Free long-sleeve K2 t-shirts will be provided to the first 100 participants in the K2 Kick-off.
Can parents and guests attend the K2 Kick-off?
While we want your friends and family to get to know UK too, the Kick-off is for students only. Check the campus calendar online for opportunities to attend events with family and friends.
