UK FUSION K Week Video Lots of Free Stuff! We Are UK Big Blue U Living on Campus New Student Check-In Information

Information for Parents and Families

Greetings from the University of Kentucky!

In a few short months, your student will officially join the UK family. We hope the coming years will be full of learning, laughter, personal growth, and success. The best way for your new Wildcat to get started at UK is by taking full advantage of K Week, our fall welcome week, from Friday, August 21, through Saturday, August 29. A variety of events and activities have been planned during K Week to address the various aspects of the transition to college life. We'll provide opportunities to meet new people, navigate our campus, make a difference in the community, and get tips on how to succeed in the classroom. Your student will receive a full K Week schedule of events when he or she arrives on campus in August. Please encourage your student to attend as many K Week events as possible. Our schedule of events has been intentionally designed with new student success in mind; our experience shows that students who actively participate typically have a much easier time adjusting to college life.

K Week is not just for students! There are many opportunities for the families of our students to participate in K Week as well. On Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22, you're encouraged to participate in our K Week schedule of events. We understand that students and families are eager to get living situations set up, but please make time to take advantage of the events going on Friday and Saturday. Of particular interest is the New Student Induction Ceremony, your student's official welcoming into the UK community. You'll also find information sessions on topics of interest to parents, including money management, academic success, and campus safety. We hope you make plans to attend.

At this time, we encourage you to sign up for the UK Parent Association's e-mail newsletter, Cat Chat, if you have not already done so. Cat Chat is the best way to keep up with the latest campus news of interest to families. You can learn more about Cat Chat and the Parent Association by visiting their web site at www.uky.edu/parents.

We look forward to working with you and your student this fall and in the coming years!

Best wishes,

Jared Tippets, Nancy Stephens and Michelle Ashcraft
