james mcbride biography
James McBride is an accomplished musician and the critically acclaimed author of The Color of Water…He is a former staff writer for The Washington Post, People, and the Boston Globe, whose work has also appeared in Essence, Rolling Stone and The New York Times. A graduate of New York City's public schools, he studied musical composition at Oberlin College and received a master's in journalism from Columbia University. In his musical career, he has written songs for Anita Baker, Grover Washington, Jr., and the television character Barney, among others. He has also won major awards for his work as a composer for the musical theater. McBride holds several honorary doctorates and is currently a Distinguished Writer in Residence at New York University. He lives in Pennsylvania and New York.
