photo and essay contests

Many of today's college students have participated in the Flat Stanley Project or the My Travel Teddy program, designed to promote literacy and written communication among primary and junior students through hands on exploration. Similarly, we have developed the CREativity Project, designed to provide and support active learning opportunities for students to apply their knowledge gained in the classroom to out-of-class experiences.

The following Common Reading Experience (CRE) contests are designed to engage UK students in analyzing this year's common book in relation to their personal experiences.

CONTEST PRIZES

First Place winners of the following contests will receive:

  • Dinner with author James McBride during his campus visit on October 1, 2009
  • Guaranteed admission to McBride's presentation, "The Color of Water: Meditations on Identity."
  • A leadership position on the Common Reading Selection Committee to help choose a book for the 2011-12 CRE

First, Second, and Third Place as well as Honorable Mention photos and essays will be displayed on the CRE website.

All photos will be displayed on campus during McBride's visit on October 1, 2009.
