K2 Frequently Asked Questions

What is K2?
The fall semester at the University of Kentucky kicks off with K Week, so why should the spring semester be any different? K2 (short for K Week 2) is designed to welcome hundreds of new students starting at UK in the spring as well as welcome back the entire University community for a new semester.

Is K2 just for new students?
All UK students are invited to attend many K2 events, including social events, information sessions, and open houses. The only event that is specifically geared toward new students is Spring Orientation on Tuesday, January 12, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Room 230 Student Center, locted above the UK Bookstore.

I still have questions about K2. Where can I get answers?
Send an e-mail to KWeek@lsv.uky.edu or call (859) 257-6597 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Office of New Student and Parent Programs will be closed for the holidays from Wednesday, December 24, through Friday, January 1.

Spring Orientation Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spring Orientation?
Spring Orientation is a one-day program for undergraduate students who will be starting at UK in the spring semester.

Do I have to attend Spring Orientation?
While attendance at Spring Orientation is not considered mandatory, it is in the best interest of new students to take advantage of these activities.  Attending Spring Orientation is the best way to meet people and become better acquainted with campus and University resources before the start of spring semester classes.

Do I have to participate in all Spring Orientation activities?
The campus tour at the conclusion of the program is optional.  The campus tour will focus on finding classroom buildings and other essential campus destinations.

What is the K Book, and where can I get a copy of it?
The K Book is UK’s new student handbook.  It is written for students by students and contains tips and stories on academic life, student life, campus resources, and UK traditions.  No new student should be without one. Limited copies of the current K Book are available at the UK Bookstore. Copies of the 2010-11 K Book will be available at the UK Bookstore in August 2010.

I already attended an Advising Conference.  Why should I attend Spring Orientation?  How is it different?
Orientation at the University of Kentucky is a two-step process.  The first step is the Advising Conference, and Spring Orientation is the second step.  Spring Orientation is not a repeat of the information that was presented at the Advising Conference.  Spring Orientation activities give you opportunities to meet other new students as well as upperclass students, faculty, and staff.  You will be able to learn more about University resources and services available to you.  You also will learn more about how to get involved with UK’s many student organizations, and hear from a faculty member who will give you insights on classroom etiquette and faculty expectations. Finally, you will have the option of visiting W.T. Young Library to learn about its student services and touring the rest of campus to find where your classes will be located.

Can parents and guests attend Spring Orientation?
Most Spring Orientation participants do not bring parents or guests with them.  Parents and guests are welcome to sit in on activities, but the information presented will be directed at students.
