UK 101 helped get me acquainted with the University of Kentucky and made the crucial transition from high school to college much smoother. At first, when I attended my summer advising session and they enrolled me in UK101, I thought to myself this course will be extremely boring and potentially a waste of time. Come to find out, after the first several sessions I was learning a tremendous amount of information, discovered all the resources on campus, how to get involved, and the endless opportunities that were ahead of me. At the close of UK101, I realized how important it is for every college freshmen to be enrolled in this course. If it were not for this course, I can assure you I would not be as involved as I am today and would not have had as much of a fulfilling college experience. Every student should get involved in the class, ask questions, and get as much out of UK101 as he or she can. The faculty and peer instructors are your friends and want to help you out in any way possible. Enjoy your freshman year; it will be gone in a heartbeat!
UK 101 helped me in more ways than one. As a college freshman with tons of options and no idea of what major to declare, I took the course in hopes of finding one I would enjoy. Not only was I able to narrow my search for a major, I was also exposed to various campus resources and met other freshman who I could relate to! Through taking UK 101, I discovered helpful tutorial services like The Study and The Writing Center, both of which I use frequently. I was also excited to learn about the CATS bus, which came in handy for getting to class on rainy days. I had no idea that UK had such a range of clubs and organizations to choose from! From study tips and stress busters to football tickets and campus events, UK 101 paved the way for an enriching college experience. By the end of my first semester, I felt like I was a part of UK, rather than simply a face in the crowd. I suggest taking UK 101 to all incoming freshmen to get the full college experience!
UK 101 really helped understand how important it was to be involved on campus and stay involved on campus. As an incoming freshman, one really doesn't know what the University has to offer as far as majors, courses, groups, clubs, organizations, volunteer activities, and leadership opportunities. UK 101 provided all of that information and more. It really united me with other freshmen that I still talk to today.
My UK 101 class helped me learn about all the services UK has to offer as well as meet other students who are adjusting to college-life just like me. I highly recommend taking UK 101 because it will teach you the keys to success by showing you the resources and opportunities available at UK.
The University of Kentucky is larger than my hometown, and UK 101 was a great resource for getting me acquainted with the University and its multitude of resources. Many of the sessions — external scholarships, study abroad, academic advising — directly addressed my needs and wants for my university experience.
As a freshman, the UK community was a large, exciting, and sometimes overwhelming adventure. However, UK 101 helped me establish good study habits, discover the numerous resources available to students, and experience the many traditions UK has. These things made the UK community personable and fun. The lessons I learned from UK 101 have continued to serve me well as I embark on my senior year.
