Let us help you with a hall program!! For years we have been teaming up with RAs to provide educational programs to the residence halls (and we provide free refreshments). We have a variety of programs ready to go‚ and we are always willing to work with you to come up with new ideas. Below you will find a list of our most popular programs and brief description of each. TO SCHEDULE A PROGRAM‚ PLEASE CONTACT MATT KRAMER AT RESLIFERECYCLING@LSV.UKY.EDU.

Recycling: The Gateway to sustainability
This program is our bread and butter. We provide tons of info on recycling in the residence halls and lots of fun facts about the environmental‚ social‚ and economic benefits of recycling. We also have several activities and games that directly engage the residents. These include a waste audit (AKA me digging through a bag of your trash to see what could have been recycled)‚ a life cycle quiz‚ and free stuff for participants who answer questions about the program. We can provide pizza and beverages.

Appropriate Technology: Bike Blender Smoothies!
We have a bicycle powered blender (seriously)! We can use it to make milk shakes and/or smoothies and it is a huge hit with students. The educational message focuses on appropriate technology‚ energy conservation‚ and waste reduction. We can combine this with the water bottle program (see below) to provide free water bottles to your residents. If we bring the water bottles we will need you to purchase the supplies for smoothies or shakes. If we don’t bring water bottles we can help out with purchasing the refreshments.

Reduce, REUSE, recycle: Carry your own water bottle!
Each year Americans spend more than 15 billion dollars on bottled water! On top of being very expensive‚ this relatively new trend also has several negative side effects. First‚ 17 million barrels of oil were used to produce the 30+ billion bottles produced last year. That’s enough fuel to keep every vehicle in KY on the road for a year! And all those bottles have to be shipped across the country leading to more oil consumption and green house gas emissions. RLR wants to help our residents kick the bottle by promoting the use of re-usable bottles. We will bring enough bottles for your residents along with stickers and other supplies for personalizing the bottles. We will also provide a presentation about bottled water vs. tap water and conduct a blind taste test to see if residents can tell a difference between tap water and bottled water.
