Living Learning Peer Mentor

Are you interested in making a difference? Do you want a leadership role on UK's campus? If so being a Living Learning Peer Mentor (LLPPM) may be exactly what you are looking for!!!

A Living Learning Peer Mentor (LLPM) will aid in facilitating student learning and academic success in one of the 13 living learning communities (LLCs) and Residential Colleges (RC's) offered on UK's campus. LLPM's Expectations are in some aspects the same across the LLP, but also allow for the unique nature of particular communities. Some of the general expectations for peer mentors include:

  • Serve as a leader and role model in the community
  • Maintain good judicial standing with the Office of Residence Life
  • Maintain the GPA required by the LLP of interest in which applicant is applying to
  • Participate in training and development activities for the position
  • Communicate regularly with Residence Life staff in the building Collaborate with RA's
  • Build community in the LLC
  • Serve as a liaison between the partner unit(s) and the Office of Residence Life
  • Direct students/residents to campus resources as needed
  • Commitment for a full academic year
  • Return to University of Kentucky for early move-in to participate in Peer Mentor Training and preparing for LLP early move-in
  • Assist with student move-in during Welcome Week

How are LLPM's selected?

Living Learning Peer mentors (LLPM) will be selected for each living learning community by the members of the community partnership. Each community partnership includes representation from the Office of Residence Life as well as invested partners.

General Requirements:

Students interested in becoming a Living Learning Peer Mentor must exhibit the following:

  • A Sophomore standing or above
  • Good judicial standing with the Office of Residence Life
  • No prior academic offenses
  • A current or past member of the LLP in which the applicant would like to apply for

Compensation

Due to varying tasks assigned to peer mentors, compensation varies for peer mentors dependent upon the community. However, there are some general incentives to having a peer mentor position. Such as:

  • Early Move-in
  • And Guaranteed housing
