The Office of Residence Life

The Office of Residence Life is responsible for the day–to–day operation and management of the University of Kentucky Residence hall system comprised of nineteen undergraduate facilities‚ five Greek Houses‚ a German House and one 250–unit apartment complex. The Office of Residence Life employs over 350 professional and paraprofessional staff who play a key role in helping to shape the lives of the over 5‚000 students living on campus‚ by exposing them to a variety of programs and experiences‚ while at the same time‚ maintaining appropriate community standards for on–campus living.

The primary focus of the residence life program is to create an environment that supports the educational mission of the university‚ by providing students with out–of–class opportunities to participate in social‚ cultural‚ recreational‚ academic and community service programs. Leadership Team

Jim Wims

Jim Wims‚ the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Director of Residence Life.

  • Responsible to the Vice President for Student Affairs for the overall operation of the Office of Residence Life and Dining Services
  • Supervision of approximately 350 professional and student staff members
  • Administration of the departmental budget
  • Development and implementation of programs that enhance the co–curricular aspect of each residential student
  • Provides service to the Division of Student Affairs and the University as directed by the Vice President

Tony Ralph

Tony Ralph‚ the Associate Director.

  • Provides direct supervision for Leadership Team and indirect supervision for other residence hall staff
  • Supervises all aspects of staff recruitment and selection for the department
  • Assists the Director with budget preparation and administration
  • Serves as a liaison with other University departments
  • Teaches one section of the RA class

Marcia Shrout

Marcia Shrout‚ the Assistant Director for North and Central Campuses.

  • Responsible for the overall operation of the residence halls on North and Central campuses
  • Provides direct supervision for the Senior staff in those halls as well as indirect supervision for other Residence Life staff
  • Coordinates the programming agenda for the area and assists in staff selection and training‚ as well as assisting staff advise Hall Governments
  • Serves as a liaison with other departments‚ including housing assignments‚ housekeeping‚ and maintenance
  • Hears appeals of in–hall sanctions and teaches one section of the RA class
  • Serves as the Hall Director for Wildcat Lodge

Lisa Lockman

Lisa Lockman‚ the Assistant Director for Greek & Apartment Housing.

  • Responsible for the overall operation of the Greek Houses and Greg Page Apartments
  • Provides direct supervision for the Senior staff in those facilities as well as indirect supervision for other Residence Life staff
  • Coordinates the programming agenda for the area and assists in staff selection and training‚ as well as assisting staff advice Hall Governments
  • Serves as a liaison with other departments‚ including housing assignments‚ housekeeping and maintenance
  • Hears appeals of in–hall sanctions and teaches one section of the RA class

Steve Stauffer

Steve Stauffer‚ the Assistant Director for South Campus.

  • Responsible for the overall operation of the residence halls in the Kirwan–Blandng Complex
  • Provides direct supervision for the Senior staff in those halls as well as indirect supervision for other Residence Life staff
  • Coordinates the programming agenda for the area and assists in staff selection and training‚ as well as assisting staff advise Hall Governments
  • Serves as a liaison with other departments‚ including housing assignments‚ housekeeping and maintenance
  • Hears appeals of in–hall sanctions and teaches one section of the RA class

Dana Macaulay

Dana Macaulay‚ the Assistant Director for Student Rights and Responsibilities.

  • Responsible for administering the student judicial process in the residence halls
  • Training and working with the Hall Directors in their capacity as judicial officers as well as conducting disciplinary hearings and serving as a conflict mediator
  • Coordinates safety and security efforts for the residence alls‚ including monitoring safety concerns and serving as the liaison with the appropriate departments that assist in these areas
  • Coordinates the student room condition process and serves as a hearing officer for damage appeals
  • Teaches one section of the RA class

Marianne Lorensen‚ the Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives.

  • Responsible for overseeing all academic and learning community initiatives in residential facilities
  • Directly works with residential staff and advisory groups for specific learning communities to develop programs and activities
  • Serves as a liaison with other departments to develop academic opportunities within the facilities
  • Teaches one section of the RA class

Susan Wilton

Susan Wilton‚ the Assistant Director for Student and Staff Development.

  • Provides leadership and supervision in staff development and training
  • Directly supervises the Graduate Assistants for Programming‚ Recycling‚ and Wellness‚ as well as indirectly supervising other Residence Life staff
  • Serves as the advisor for the Resident Student Association (RSA) and assists the staff in advising individual Hall Governments
  • Coordinates the Resident Advisor class‚ teaching one section

Augusta Leslie

Augusta Leslie‚ the Administrative Support Associate.

  • Provides administrative support for the Director of Residence Life and the Office of Residence Life
  • Provides direct supervision for the Account Clerk

Cindy Lane‚ the Account Clerk.

  • Manages all departmental accounts

TBA‚ the Staff Support Associate.

  • Provides administrative support for the Office of Residence Life

Shane TedderShane Tedder‚ Sustainability Coordinator.

  • Manages the overall operation of the Residence Life Recycling program
  • Responsible for educating students and staff about environmental awareness and campus, community, and global sustainability
  • Supervises student recycling assistants who assist with collecting recyclables and educational programming

Leslie WoltenbergLeslie Woltenberg‚ Learning Communities Coordinator.

  • Responsible for the coordination of learning communities within the residential facilities.
  • Works with Academic Initiatives Committee and Learning Community Advisory Board.
