The UK Student Leader Study Abroad Institute (SLSAI)
In 2008, the University of Kentucky College of Business and the Division of Student Affairs will offer a non-credit or, upon paying tuition, a three credit hour Student Leader Study Abroad Institute for current and future college and university student leaders in student government, student activities, and campus clubs and organizations. Institute participants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program of study in higher education and hold a current (2007-08) or elect position of leadership (2008-09) for the 2008-09. Newly elected student leaders are highly encouraged to attend. Enrollment is limited to 50 students.
The Goals of the Institute
The 2008 UK Student Leader Study Abroad Institute provides college and university student leaders in the United States with opportunities to learn about leadership paradigms within the context of different social, political, cultural and economic systems and how higher education and student representation and leadership differ between the United States and a selected international country through a one-week study and travel program in a host country.
Institute Faculty
Dr. Nancy Johnson, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs and Associate Professor of Management, School of Management at the University of Kentucky, will serve as the Institute's Academic Director. Dr. Johnson is highly renowned for her work and research in international management issues.
Dr. Fred W. Rhodes, Vice President for Student Affairs at Bellarmine University and Adjunct Professor at the University of Louisville, will serve as Senior Faculty. Dr. Rhodes has traveled extensively with university students all over the world and is an acknowledged expert on student leadership and development.
Dr. Patricia S. Terrell, Vice President for Student Affairs and Adjunct Faculty in the College of Education's Educational Policies and Evaluation Department will serve as the Institute's Director. Dr. Terrell has more than 30 years of experience working with highly successful student leaders.
Ms. Anne Coke, Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Kentucky, is the Institute Coordinator. Ms. Coke holds a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology and has several decades of experience working with and coordinating diverse student leadership programs.
