Health
Education and Promotion Program
In addition to the services provided
by clinicians, University Health Service (UHS) offers a comprehensive
Health Education and Promotion Program. Information is accessible
on a variety of health issues including stress management,
self-esteem, cancer prevention, smoking cessation, alcohol
and other drug problems, nutrition, fitness, birth control,
sexually transmitted diseases, and AIDS/HIV. Health
related pamphlets and brochures are available to students
free of charge for personal use or as reference materials
for class projects.
UHS Health Education staff is available
for group presentations as well as for individual counseling
on topics mentioned above. Any student or student organization
may request information and/or a presentation on health related
topics by contacting the Health Education Department at (859)
323-5823 ext 281 or 238.
Sexual Health Information
A gynecological nurse counselor is available
for pregnancy counseling. A one-hour, informal Sexual Health
Information Session is held at UHS several times a week. Topics
discussed in this session are the gynecological exam and Pap
smear, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, and contraceptive
options. It is open to all students, both male and female.

Nutrition Information
A registered dietitian provides information on nutritional
concerns such as healthy eating, eating disorders, sports
nutrition, and weight control. For an appointment, call 323-APPT

Substance Abuse/Smoking
Cessation Support
UHS offers individualized assessments and programs
for students who currently smoke and want to become non-smokers.
Clinicians will work with students to determine the best programs
for successful smoking cessation, including individual counseling,
group programs, nicotine replacement therapy and other strategies

Individual assessment and counseling
for drug and alcohol problems is offered. If needed,
further treatment and involvement in additional alcohol
and other substance abuse programs can be
