UK will continue its relationship with Aetna Student Health (formerly known as the Chickering Group) for the 2008-2009 Student Health Insurance Plan. Same company, same coverage...new name!

Hospitalization Insurance
Services related to hospitalization, surgical procedures and accident care (typically "insured services") are not covered by the health fee. Students are expected to have their own health insurance to pay these expenses  (Note: International Students are required to have health insurance). Many students are covered by their parents' insurance.  Students who are no longer considered dependents on a family policy or who are married need their own policies.

UK Student Group Insurance Plan
The University Health Service can assist students in obtaining health insurance coverage.  The annual policy provides year-round coverage.  University of Kentucky Lexington Campus and BCTC Cooper Drive Campus undergraduate students taking six credit hours or more and University of Kentucky graduate students are eligible for enrollment. Students also may purchase coverage for their spouse and/or children.

The premium may be paid by check, VISA or MasterCard. Enrollment may be continued from one year to the next by re-enrolling within 14 days from the enrollment date. Although students are encouraged to enroll at the beginning of the school year, enrollment is available throughout the policy year.

For further information and enrollment dates visit Aetna Student Health or call University Health Service (859) 323-5823 ext. 223

International Students
The University of Kentucky requires all international Students to have health insurance. For more information on insurance for International Students, you can go to the Office of International Affairs Medical Matters web page and scroll down the page to the section on Insurance, or contact the Office of International Affairs at 257-4067, ext 238.

Funded Graduate Students
All enrolled, degree-seeking graduate students with full-time assistantships or institutional fellowships (or a combination of the two) are automatically enrolled in the University's student insurance plan through the Graduate School Fellowship Office. For more information about funded student insurance, please see Information for Funded Graduate Students, or contact the Graduate School Fellowship Office at 257-3261.
