STUDENTS OF CONCERN - SOC Home

  • FAQ's

The University of Kentucky always works to support students in all aspects of their life on our campus. In an effort to enhance that and in response to concerns over tragic events in recent years at institutions of higher education across the country, the University of Kentucky created the Students of Concern Committee (SOC).

The mission of the SOC Committee is to
Proactively enhance the well-being and safety of the university's students and employees.

The SOC Committee does this by:

  • Providing a centralized point of contact for people who develop a concern about the welfare of an individual, and;
  • Taking action by referring students to the appropriate resources that can provide the support and assistance needed to safely maintain a successful relationship with the University.

* The SOC Committee is NOT a resource to be used for emergencies!
If you are in an emergency situation that requires medical, psychological or police services,
call 911 from a campus phone.
Off-campus and cell phones, 859-257-UKPD (8573).

Once the situation is safe, you should provide an incident report to the SOC.

The SOC works with students who demonstrate concerning behavior by providing referrals to services for:

  • Assessments
  • Behavior Contracts
  • Class reassignments
  • Counseling
  • Facilitating leaves of absence
  • Medication
  • Issues concerning the Code of Student Conduct
  • Other remedies as formulated by the SOC Committee

For more information, you may contact the SOC Case Manager at (859) 257-5134 or SOC@lsv.uky.edu.
