|
November 19, 2005-The
Kentucky Jazz Repertory Orchestra, co-directed by
University of Kentucky School of Music Professors Dick Domek & Miles Osland.
One word describes this event: Amazing! An outstanding
big band
playing the original arrangements! The music of Jimmie Lunceford,
Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and others came to life
at this event. What a magical moment when the band played Duke
Ellington's 6 minute version of "Tiger Rag" and a lot of the
attendees gathered around the bandstand to cheer on the band!
A lot of the songs played at this dance are not
played very often at other live music venues by your average "big
band" or "swing band" due to their technical difficulty.
If you missed this dance, all we can say is
.....you shouldn't have....but don't
miss the next one! |

April
16,
2005-The
Tom Daugherty Orchestra and their famous re-creation of the
Glenn
Miller Army-Air Corps
WWII
Band. All
the way from Dayton, OH, this band gave a nice performance and
show. Once again, lots of swing dancers from Lexington, central KY and
out-of-town showed up to enjoy some good music and cut a rug. |

November
6,
2004-Lee's
Junction Big Band Orchestra.
An
outstanding Big Band Orchestra from the Cincinnati, OH area with great
vocalists. Lots of swing dancers from central KY and out of
town
had a great time at this dance!

February
21,
2004-Battle of the
High School Jazz Bands!
Scott
County and
Dunbar
High School
Jazz Bands duke
it out.
Verdict:
A Tie!
A
very enjoyable
evening!
Those
young people can really play. And
a lot of them also learned a few dance moves!
|

|
November
8,
2003-The
Pete
Wagner
Big Band Orchestra.
Ever
wonder what it was like to dance in the 1930's and 40's to
that
great big
band sound? This was one great
dance!
No
Lawrence Welk,
no
champaign
music,
no
mayonnaise,
no white bread at this dance.
Just that great, swingin' big band
sound! |
|

|
February
28,
2003-The
Cigar Store Indians.
This
rockabilly band from the Atlanta, GA area was
just a whole lot of fun!
They came,
they rocked,
we danced!
