Kappa kick started the fall semester by sponsoring
Breast Cancer Awareness Week around campus. Kappas donated their time
to pass out Breast Cancer Ribbons and to inform those on campus about
Breast Cancer. Students all over UK's campus were seen sporting the
pink ribbon. At the end of the week was Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure that brought the Beta Chi Kappas out in full force. We were recognized and AWARDED FOR BEING THE LARGEST TEAM! Kappa loves to show our support for breast cancer research! |
| Our largest philanthropy event, Kappasta, is held in the spring of
every year. Kappasta is an all you can eat spaghetti dinner that helps
a family or person in need. Our last two reciepients were Maria Long, a 12 year old who had a brain tumor, and Joseph Kinskey, a 3 year old who had a liver transplant. Kappasta brings together the UK campus and the Lexington community to help raise funds to help these families with medical expenses. All food, supplies, and advertising is donated so that we are able to give all the proceeds to the families. Beta Chi has consistently raised between $4000-$5000 dollars each year. We love that we were able to make a significant difference in each of these families lives. |

2004 was a great success. Benefits went to former
UK graduate, Todd Crawford, who was involved in a boating accident
and is now in need of a new electric wheelchair to help him achieve
his dream of going to law school. By raising $7800 we
were able to help Todd with this dream. |

| This
semester the BX Kappas joined together and helped build a house for
Habitat for Humanity. This was a great opportunity for us to use our
muscles and powertools for a good cause. We had both experienced and
inexperienced users of the tools but it was a fun way for us to grow
together as well as help build a house for someone in the Lexington
community. |
