Second Annual Music for the Holidays Drive Begins

Local Band Fraternity Passing on the Gift of Music

Lexington, KY-

The Theta Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity, at the University of Kentucky announces theÊSecond Annual Music for the Holidays Drive, in conjunction with the National Music for Hope Foundation.

The brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi will collect instruments throughout the month of December.ÊThese instruments will be given to underprivilaged band students in Fayette County Schools, who otherwise would not have the means of renting or purchasing an instrument.Ê Last year, nearly 20 instruments were collected.Ê This year's goal is 30, according to Chapter Vice-President for Brotherhood and Service, Alfonzo Kimbrough, who chairs the committee in charge of the project.

The Music for Hope Foundation began in Las Vegas Nevada, Mr. Kimbrough's hometown, and has satellite chapters throughout the nation.Ê It has helped several thousand students participate in school band programs across America.Ê According to Ryan Akers, chapter member (and District Officer for the Fraternity), the UK Chapter has preliminary approval from the District and from the Music for Hope Foundation to expand the program to schools throughout Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and West Virginia, reaching more than 25 additional cities.

Local businesses assisting this year's drive include Don Wilson Music Company, Southland Drive, and Hurst Music Compant, Versailles Road, among others.

Instruments may be dropped off at Don Wilson Music or Hurst Music through January 1, or can pick up can be arranged by contacting Jonathan Neff at 223-8920, or e-mailing thetaepsilon@kkpsi.org.
