"Drums: Africa to Trinidad" gives teachers and students the resources to cultivate their appreciation for cultural diversity ineducation. Each activity has been constructed to coincide with the goals of the Kentucky Education Reform Act as well as theNational Standards for Arts Education. This program is devised to be an extension and a differentiation of the curriculum your students are currently receiving. Much more than an exciting concert, this complete program emphasizes the nature of communication by allowing students to gather information through listening, participating, observing, and visualizing.Your packet contains History Activities, Science Activities, Language Arts Activities, Information regarding KERA and the National Standards, Music Activities, Art Activities, UK Steel Band Posters, and a UK Steel Band Cassette Tape. Through this complete program, students will demonstrate an understanding of, appreciation for, and sensitivity to a multi-cultural and world view... experience and participate in a "Call and Response" musical demonstration... appreciate cultural differences and the value of the arts...recognize continuity and change in historical events...display artistic creativity in our simulated road march. UofK STEEL BAND The University of Kentucky Steel Band presents an exciting school program that engages, educates and entertains students, faculty, and parents. Your school will follow a historical time-line that traces the roots of West Indian music and society from Africa to the New World. When your school sponsors the program, you will receive an educational package containing information, materials, and interdisciplinary activities in a variety of subject matters relating to the live concert at your school.
