Gays, Religion, Philosophy, Understanding . . .
. . . There's so much that could be said.
For lack of time and the ability to be objective, I'll leave this
in the hands of others. Here are some resources that you might be
interested in.
- For those attempting to understand something of the gay perspective
on the world, I heartily recomment that you look at
With
Downcast Gays, an early pamphlet exploring the concepts of
oppression and liberation in ways that still ring true today. A true
classic. Required reading for Queer 101 if
I ever teach it.
- There are numerous sites that take up the topic of what the Bible
REALLY says about homosexuality. If you're grappling within that framework,
I've included a link to an
eye-opening pamphlet (and now I have the link working!)
- On the same subject, I'd suggest you read John Boswell's exhaustively
researched (and rather long) book, Christianity,
Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality.
- For even more about religion (generally) and queerness, follow this
link to the Queer Resources Directory
and go directly to the religion section. Many documents available.
- Anyone seeking information on the so-called "ex-gay" ministries set
up by various denominations might want to look at what ex-ex-gays have to say
about it. See Ex.Ex, a
project of Doug Upchurch out of Houston, Texas.
I'll add more links as I see things that are good. Revised 6-25-96.
