Wednesday, August 26th -- Classes begin and so does the SWA membership drive. SWA members will be speaking in classes, fielding questions, and passing out brochures (that include a membership form) and SWA calendar of events. Plus, they are encouraging everyone to attend the first SWA KICKOFF Meeting on Friday, September 18th starting at 5 PM at Dr. Anderson's house. (Mark your calendars!!!) (Maps will be available soon!)

 

Thursday, August 27th -- SWA will be holding its traditional informal Faculty Breakfast beginning at 7:30 AM. Faculty, check out the mailroom for donuts, bagels, and other goodies.

 

Tuesday, September 15th -- This is our first Brown Bag Lunch of the semester. The topic is "Private Practice in Social Work". Our wonderful speaker is Hal Galbraith, LCSW. Meet in room 645 on the 6th floor of Patterson Office Tower at 11 am - 12:15 PM. We understand that some have classes that overlap, so drop in when you can. Remember to bring your lunch and questions!!!

 

Friday, September 18th -- The much anticipated SWA Kickoff begins at 5 PM at DR. Anderson's house. This is the first meeting and social of the semester. We are grilling out, having tractor rides, meeting faculty and other students, and learning about SWA. Sign up in Room 620 (Student Lounge) on the 6th floor of Patterson Office Tower. We are carpooling from the parking lot between the Student Center and the practice field (leaving at 4:45 PM). Directions are available in room 620 of POT. Please mark your calendars for this event!!!

 

Saturday, September 26th -- Car Wash -- It will be held at Fazoli's on Richmond Rd. starting at 11 AM and ending around 5 PM. This is one of two fund raisers this semester that will be financing SWA to attend a NASW conference next semester. Please sign up in room 620 in POT if you want to help us out. We need to bring buckets, old towels, soap, extra hoses, and sponges. Please support this fundraising effort!!! 

 

Thursday, October 1st -- Practicum Request Forms for a Spring Practicum are due in room 677 of POT. Pick up these forms and your Student Guide for Practicum Planning in room 620 of POT.

Friday, October 2nd -- Fall Break

Wednesday, October 7th -- Pizza Party/ Meeting  begins at 7 PM in Room 205 in the Student Center (above the bookstore). We will be discussing dinner at the HOPE Center, Take Back the Night, and trick-or-treating the children at the UK Children's Hospital. You can sign up to participate at the meeting or sign-ups will be located in the Student Lounge (room 620 on 6th floor of POT). You can bring your dues at the meeting.

Friday, October 9th -- SWA is serving Dinner at the HOPE Center. We can meet at the HOPE Center at 4:45 PM or carpool from UK (we'll decide at the previous meeting). Once at the Center, we will put on our aprons, gloves, and hairnets and serve the homeless their evening meal until 6 PM.

Sunday, October 11th -- Take Back the Night begins at 6 PM at Triangle Park. SWA is helping the Spouse Abuse Center raise awareness on campus. Come out for the speakers, march, and chants.

Monday, October 12th -- Meeting is at 7 PM in room 205 in the Student Center (above the bookstore). We will be discussing the Bake Sale and bringing our goodies and treats for the trick-or-treat to make the Halloween bags. Sign-up sheets will be at the meeting and in room 620 on the 6th floor of Patterson Office Tower. You can pay your dues at the meeting.

October 19th -- Midterms Begin!

Wednesday, October 28th -- SWA is trick-or-treating UK Children's Hospital. We will meet at 5:45 PM in the lobby by the revolving doors in UK Hospital. (If you drive, bring in your parking ticket stub, so you can have it stamped for free parking.) Then we will go up to the Children's Hospital and treat all the children.

Friday, October 30th -- The bake sale is in the Student Center in the main hallway near Long John Silvers. It starts at 10 am and ends at 2 PM or when we sell out of goodies. We need volunteers to work the booth and bake all the cookies, cupcakes, brownies, and other goodies. Sign up in room 620 in Patterson Office Tower! Please support this fundraising effort (this is the last one of the semester). The money raised will help finance SWA attend a NASW conference next semester.

 Monday, November 9th -- SWA meeting will be held at 7 PM in room 205 in the Student Center (above the bookstore). We will be discussing the upcoming conference, the white elephant party, and the Angel Tree. We will also be nominating people for 1999 officers.

Wednesday, December 2nd -- This meeting will be at 7 PM in room 205 of the Student Center (above the bookstore). We will have our White Elephant Party. (Bring a used item and wrap it like a gift. Outrageous "gifts" will add to the humor.) The nominated people will give speeches. Elections will take place. A survey will be given to solicit ideas for next semester's calendar.
