Ammunition (usually called "shells" by trap shooters) are an aspect of trapshooting that many people take to extremes. Some shooters will only shoot brand new, factory loaded shells. Another group of shooters will only shoot shells that they have reloaded themselves, according to their own special "recipe." Some shooter don't care what they shoot, they will just grab any shells that are laying around
Shells are highly debated subject among trapshooting circles. Which shells shoot the best, which shells reload the best, "I only shoot Federal because I won a trophy while shooting with them," "I have the best recipe for reloading shells ever made...I never miss with them!" Debates like these are always going on at local gun clubs. Truth is, if one shell has the same specification as another shell (i.e. type of shot, the shot number, type of powder, amount of powder in the shell, etc.), then they will shoot nearly the same. The difference between the two shells is trivial, even more so for factory loaded shells. A shell made by Winchester is no better than a shell made by Remington, if the specifications are the same. And since specifications of the shells are limited by the rules of the governing body, the differences become even smaller. It really all comes down to personal preference.
