Mind Matter SeriesTuesday, February 9, Noon – 1:00 pm, 357 Student Center Speaker: Dr. April Richardson, Assistant Professor of Anatomy & Neurobiology Dr. Richardson will discuss how podcasting can be used in a course to create a multi-dimensional learning experience that enhances comprehension and retention. Producing a podcast that incorporates the use of images and visual guidance combined with narrative addresses multiple learning styles and allows for repeated views of the presentation. Student feedback associated with this project will also be discussed. This instructional technology is applicable to a wide variety of disciplines. Buffet lunch available (sponsored by The Chellgren Center for Excellence in Undergraduate Education) RSVP to Kathryn Cunningham to reserve a seat. The past presentations have been archived for those who could not attend. To view the past presentations, please go to the Presentation Archive. Scholarly Learning CommunitiesA scholarly learning community (SLC) is a multi-disciplinary group of faculty, graduate students and/or professional staff consisting of eight to twelve members engaged in an active, collaborative, year-long program typically focused on enhancing teaching and learning. Communities can be topic-based addressing some specific issue from an interdisciplinary perspective or cohort-based addressing the needs of a specific group of individuals such as new faculty or department chairs. The community is expected to produce some product(s) such as a white paper or a course/curriculum redesign proposal. The Teaching and Academic Support Center is facilitating three SLCs this year: We would like to initiate several more such communities in the next academic year. If you have a suggestion for an SLC or want more information, please contact Bill Burke, 257-8272 ext 229). We can assist you in finding other interested individuals, providing logistical and technical support for the community (e.g., meeting sites and wikis), and creating a successful and productive experience.
