Mid-Semester Course Feedback

Student interviews

One of the most valuable sources of information about how your class is going is the students themselves.  Asking for feedback during the semester, ideally before the mid-term, allows you to make some changes for the current students.  Often, end-of-semester evaluations are more useful and more positive as a result of getting and using mid-semester feedback.  At your request, Educational Development staff can interview your class and provide a confidential report to you.

At least 20 minutes of class time is needed for this structured exercise.  More time, up to 45 minutes, is better.  Students will brainstorm about what helps them learn, what makes learning more difficult, and what suggestions they have for enhancing the learning experience in your class.  The class votes agreement or disagreement with each item to provide a sense of class consensus.

This service includes a pre-visit conference with you to discuss your perspective and identify any issues of particular concern, and a post-visit conference to discuss the student feedback.  The information collected in the interviews is confidential and shared only with you, the instructor.

Classroom observation

We can provide a colleague’s perspective on classroom activities. An observation can be combined with a student interviews for well-rounded data.  We can focus on a standard suite of classroom issues and on questions that you are curious about.

Classroom observations normally require a pre-visit meeting to decide on scheduling and classroom issues and a post-visit meeting to discuss the results. Information collected during observation is confidential and shared only with you, the instructor.

End-of-semester evaluations
TASC personnel are not involved in the end-of-semester evaluation process, but we can consult with you about the results of those evaluations.
