UK and NASA will engage in a live, interactive session with three high schools in Kentucky at 12:30pm on Thursday, May 15, 2008. Others are welcome to join in to watch and listen. We expect the session to run a little over an hour. There’s much to learn and discuss about Mars exploration and flight! NASA’s lead technologist for the Mechanical Systems Division at the Jet Propulsion Lab in California, Gregory Davis, PhD. Dr. Davis served as the mechanical systems engineer for cruise, entry, descent and landing on the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Project. Additionally, UK’s Dr. Suzanne Weaver Smith and her students share the results of the BIG BLUE project, a unique multi-university, multidisciplinary project that delves into hands-on, real-life aerospace engineering challenges, research and careers. The three high schools (Paul Laurence Dunbar in Lexington/Fayette County; Scott County; and Trigg County) will join the discussion by sharing results of an activity they will have engaged in before the event. They will post activity information on the results page. Want to participate in an activity and results-sharing too? Contact Patsy for more information.

Partners for this event are the University of Kentucky, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratoryr, The BIG BLUE Project, The Council on Post-Secondary Education, Fayette County Public Schools, Scott County Schools and Trigg County Public Schools.
